In the historic landing of Apollo-11 on the Moon in 1969, US astronauts silently observed an unidentified object in the distant lunar landscape. Major Edwin Buzz Aldrin later recounted, “Out of the spacecraft window, we saw, in the distance, a large object. It had a ring-like shape and an elliptical orbit.” Despite reporting the sighting to then-President Richard Nixon upon their return, NASA decided to keep unusual information classified.

Several years ago, former Soviet cosmonaut Vladimir Kovalenok revealed an intriguing encounter aboard the Salyut orbital station. He described observing a finger-sized object of unknown origin orbiting the station, which suddenly exploded before he could capture it on camera. This phenomenon coincided with a significant radiation event, adding to the mystery.
Kovalenok mentioned that many of his colleagues had also witnessed peculiar objects in space. In 1991, cosmonaut Musa Manarov observed an antenna-like object separating from a module near the Soviet Hòa Bình station, capturing it on camera but unable to identify the object conclusively.
In 1985, a strange glowing orange cloud appeared outside the Soviet Salyut-7 space station. When it dissipated, crew members observed seven humanoid figures with enormous wings and radiant halos outside the window, resembling mysterious “angels.” Reports of this incident were immediately labeled “classified,” and astronauts were prohibited from discussing the supernatural occurrence upon their return to Earth.
Similar angelic figures were reported near US space shuttles, but these incidents were not widely disclosed.Pilots and astronauts have repeatedly reported witnessing bizarre entities in space at altitudes between 50 to 100 kilometers. Classified by their appearances, experts categorize them as “sprites” (red circles), “jellyfish” (blue entities), “tigers” (red entities), and “blue jet fountains.”
Photographs taken before the tragic Columbia shuttle disaster in 2003 showed jellyfish-like objects emitting red light around Madagascar at an altitude of 150 km. In 2005, a team in Colorado captured a different-colored jellyfish, later revealed to be bouncing ball-shaped entities by atmospheric physicists at the University of Alaska.
Some anomalies observed by astronauts might be attributed to altered states of consciousness due to pressure, temperature variations, oxygen deprivation, and other environmental factors. However, not all occurrences can be explained by such factors.
The cosmos remains a realm of uncharted mysteries, with numerous accounts of unidentified objects and inexplicable phenomena. Whether these encounters are celestial anomalies, optical illusions, or something beyond current understanding, the fascination with the unknown persists, challenging our perception of space exploration and the mysteries it holds.
